Children love to Play

Children love to Play! For this reason, Roslin Day Nursery’s environments are designed to support learning through play. Our curriculum is made up of activities that will encourage your child to learn as they play. We surround them with books and toys, musical instruments, paint and glue, bikes and climbing equipment; all designed to stimulate and stretch their imaginations while having fun on the way!

Children who come to Roslin Day Nursery leave with a greater understanding about the world that they live in. They learn in an atmosphere that encourages participation and cooperation. We put a great deal of emphasis on appropriate behaviour and lead this by example. We are all role models to your child, and we take this responsibility very seriously.

Our teams are our greatest asset. Our Staff are motivated people who have qualifications in early years education and a thorough understanding of children’s needs. Their passion and enthusiasm contributes to creating a happy, fun, safe and secure, loving and enriching environment for all the children.

EYFS

EYFS Roslin Nursery follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. The EYFS is a stage of children’s development from birth to the end of their first (Reception) year in school. The EYFS Framework describes how early years practitioners should work with children and their families to support their learning and development. The framework was revised in September 2021 to make it clearer, with more focus on children’s learning and with greater emphasis on working in partnership with parents to support children’s learning at home.

The revised EYFS explains how and what your child will be learning to give them a firm foundation for a successful start at school. Your child will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through 7 areas of learning and development.

Children usually develop the 3 Prime Areas first:

As children grow these Prime Areas will help them to develop skills in the 4 Specific Areas:

Literacy

Mathematics

Understanding the world

Expressive arts and design

These 7 areas are used to plan your child’s learning. At Roslin Nursery we use a fun, play based approach to supporting learning and development in the early years. Learning is guided by staff who skilfully support the children’s learning and development through effective teaching. Each child’s learning and development is recorded and celebrated through their learning Journey.

Partnership with Parents

At Roslin Day Nursery we welcome all parents into the nursery at all times. We are strongly committed to promoting a working partnership with parents for the benefit of your children.

We believe that parents are the primary educators of their children and should be centrally involved in their child’s experiences and development. We realise that it is imperative we gain the trust and confidence of all of our parents. We want you to be happy with what we do and how we do it.

Each child has a Learning Journal which will be a record of your child’s interests, significant achievements and development throughout their time with us. We welcome parental contributions (this would include all significant people involved with your child) and we encourage parents to access their own child’s journal at any time, which are available from your keyworker at anytime.

Key Person

Research has shown that a Key Person approach is the most effective way of ensuring that children develop a strong relationship with a significant adult in the nursery. The Key Person approach gives every child the reassurance to feel secure and cared for, helping them to become familiar with the nursery environment and to feel confident and safe within it.

We recognise every child’s individuality, efforts and achievements and believe that relationships between adults and children are crucial for the child’s happiness and security.

The Key Person meets the needs of each child in their care and responds sensitively to their feelings, ideas and behaviour. The Key Person will ensure that activities are planned around your children’s interest. The Key Person will offer security, reassurance and continuity, and they will usually be the one to feed, change and soothe your child. They are in the best position to understand your child’s individual needs and to share information with you about your child’s experiences in nursery.

The Key Person will help each of their children to develop relationships with other members of staff and children.
